This past week, I was in Las Vegas for a work-related conference. I had managed to book a flight back home that left an hour before the rest of my workmates, and with only a 45 minute layover in Charlotte, compared to theirs of over 3 hours.
Brag, brag, brag….
Then Karma kicked me in the tuchas…
Short version…. my flight was cancelled…. or actually “delayed”…. for over 10 hours.
But they did the right thing…. got us all accommodations for the night, including a shuttle to and from the hotel, and vouchers for dinner and breakfast….
The following morning on the shuttle bus, we were waiting for two more passengers, when our driver asked, “Were all of you on that flight that was delayed last night?” We all nod and reply yes, which is really all the answer our driver needs….
Except…..
… the man in the passenger seat sees this as an opportunity to vent. Because he was evidently the only person inconvenienced by this turn of events….
“I could have been home by now…. Blah blah….in my apartment…it’s ridiculous….blah, blah, blah…..”
He is probably my age… Divorced a few times…or possibly still a virgin…going home to his apartment….which I can sadly picture in my mind….
I know… I’m being judgmental… but that’s kinda what I do…..but in my defense, the couple in front of me looked at each other sharing the same eye roll….
Please, sad little man…. don’t go on….
Oh well…
He starts going on about how he needs to be compensated for his inconvenience… As soon as he gets home, he’s going to have his travel agent get him a free trip for all of his troubles…
Says the man living in an apartment….who has his own travel agent…..do people still use travel agents for a flight to Vegas?
It’s 7:02. The shuttle was supposed to leave originally at 7, but all of the passengers received a text message that the time had gotten bumped back 15 minutes… so those of us with a working knowledge of cell phones are aware of this….
But blissfully ignorant is the man with his own travel agent……. he begins bitching about how he is going to miss his plane because we are still waiting for 2 people….
His plane….did I mention there were about a dozen of us on this shuttle?
The aforementioned couple glance at each other again, eyes a rollin’….
A few moments later, our last two passengers arrive…Oh crap….they are Asian…. Not Asian-American… Asian….speaking a language I am not familiar with…
All I can think is….
“Dear god…. Don’t let him throw down a race grenade!!!”
I can totally picture this guy in a “make America great again” hat… cracking wise about “his” country being taken over…. I begin to wonder if he was in Vegas for last week’s primary to back his man….
I wait….
No grenade…
