What to do when your anti-depressants are depressing you?
Well, here’s what I did… I stopped taking them. Not cold turkey… I weened off them for a few weeks. Probably should have stretched that out a little long, but what’s done is done.
Disclaimer: I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE ELSE DO THIS. IF YOU DO, WELL, YOU HAVE TO BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS. DO NOT TRY TO SUE ME IF THINGS DON’T GO WELL FOR YOU. I AM NOT THE BOSS OF YOU!!!
AND KEEP IN MIND… I AM A BIPOLAR WOMAN NO LONGER TAKING HER MEDS…DO YOU REALLY WANT TO MESS WITH ME?!?!?!?!
Okay, now that that is out of the way…
I have been on various meds for about 13 years, first Prozac, then a combination of Wellbutrin XL and Lexapro. My dosage was fine tuned every few years, but at the beginning of 2014, I could tell I needed another tune up, but I was maxed out on my dosages, and I really didn’t want to try something else. And I started to wonder… were the meds part of the problem?
I’ve been off them now for about 2 months, and the answer is… yes and no.
Yes, the meds were depressing me… that’s the good news…
But I remember why I went on them in the first place. I’m a real bitch!
And that’s okay… at least I can feel again. I just need to learn how to deal with this crazy child I have let out into the world again. She is in a completely different place than she was in 2001.
I was 40 then….still single, and very insecure.
I am now 53, married, have been through menopause, and maybe a tad bit too self-assured.
This should be interesting….stay tuned…..
