An Example of White Privilege

White Privilege is something that some white people just don’t understand.

So maybe this video will help to explain.

When I saw this, I thought WTF? How dare she…what an idiot.. etc….

Then I thought, she was probably having a crappy day…was very embarrassed… knew she was wrong….

Then I started reading comments about the video, and came across many from people of color saying things like “Why wasn’t she dragged out of her car?”

And I thought of Sandra Bland….

And I thought of myself… and some of the stupid shit I have done in my life. I have benefited greatly from white privilege many, many times….

If you watch the full video, you can see that the driver was confrontational from the beginning. She wanted proof he was a cop, and proof that he was who he said he was (he was in an unmarked car). Then she begs and pleads for a warning, which he says no to, as she was speeding in a school zone at 2:40 in the afternoon on a Tuesday. She asks to be let go, because she will never do it again, and she has lots of frozen food (she had just left Target). At some point he calls for backup, because it is pretty obvious that she is a bit wound up.

See…. this is white privilege. A 62-year old white woman gets mouthy with a cop…. calls hims an asshole… implies he needs to be shot… insults in him further ways (as seen in the full version). He calls for backup, and goes on about his job.

And then there is what happened to Sandra Bland…….

Pulled over for failing to signal a lane change….something that could have been dismissed with a warning….but she’s black, so let’s make sure she doesn’t have any warrants or if the car is stolen…

And yes, she gets mouthy… she gets defensive…can’t say that I blame her… and that I haven’t done the same thing myself….

Does she get the benefit of the doubt…. no….

Did I? Did the 62-year old white woman? Of course we did!!!!!

Because a black woman with an attitude = danger

A white woman with an attitude….she’s probably just on her period….
